Sara loves helping people find the story within their work, with honing their message, pacing, and rhythm. She’s right/brained/left-brained and can see where your books needs emotional punch or nuance but also will remember if something in Chapter 33 contradicts something in Chapter 3. She pulls no punches and will ask the hard questions that never occurred to you, and possibly others you wished no one would ask. She is generous with her time and her passion for helping a piece of work become the strongest it can be.

She is the author of Learning to Swim (2011) and A Cold and Lonely Place (2013), both from Crown. Her novels have won the Anthony Award, Agatha Award, Mary Higgins Clark Award, and Silver Falchion Award. Both novels were Target picks and A Cold and Lonely Place has appeared in Readers Digest Select Editions in multiple countries.

Sara has edited many fiction and nonfiction books, written for numerous magazines, written and cowritten nonfiction books on health and fitness, and worked as a correspondence writing school instructor. She has a master’s in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa, was an editor at Rodale Books and Women’s Sports & Fitness magazine, and a newspaper editor. She has also been a soil scientist, website designer, and bicycle mechanic.
